After assessment and evaluation, introduced high yielding hybrids and varieties like VRO-6, Shakti, BSS-893, Sonal and Sarika in okra, Nandini, Malav and Laila in cucumber, Nishant, Chaya, Prapti and Pragati in brinjal, Varun, Nilgiri and Alisha in cabbage, Girija and Madhuri in cauliflower, Arka Rakshak, Heem Sohna, Badshah and Shanshah in tomato, Agri Found Parvati in garlic for mountain region, Agri Found Light Red in Rabi onion, Soldier, Dushehra and Laher in chilli, Amanshree and Pallee in bittergourd, Blumhouse in summer squash under Horticulture Technology Mission (Mini Mission-I) and KVK activities. These hybrids have played an important role in improving productivity per unit area in short span of time and have attracted the attention of vegetable growers for area expansion due to high remunerative return. About one crore seedlings of these hybrids have been sold to the farmers through various developmental departments and revenue generated due to seedlings production is approximately Rs. 30.0 lacs.
Shoot gall psylla is one of the most devastating pest and causes 40-50 per cent damage in mango of Dehradun district. Accordingly, KVK has taken initiative and started sensitizing the farmers on management of shoot gall psylla due to which about 200 ha area have been covered under management of shoot gall psylla about the use of recommended insecticides such as thiamethoxam and profenophos during August, 2014. Its result came in June-July, 2015 when harvesting is done. According to feedback received from the farmers and contractors, net profit of about Rs. 1.0 crore earned by them as additional income. The farmers who were earlier in opinion that management of shoot gall psylla is not possible are coming forward to protect their mango orchard from shoot gall psylla. This year also we have organized campaign from 3rd August, 2015 to 22nd August, 2015 in intensive growing areas of mango. The campaign programme has been covered by print and electronic media. About 3000 copies of one page literature on management of shoot gall psylla also circulated among farmers and contractors. Spraying of thiamethoxam 1 gm per liter of water + profeniphos 2 ml per liter of water + sticker 1 ml per liter of water has been done by the farmers in 2nd week of August to 1st week of September. According to an estimate about 900-1000 ha area are expected to cover under management of shoot gall psylla in mango. This contribution of KVK, Dehradun has become a milestone and inspired us to make commitment for the welfare of farming community by transferring need based technologies.
Evaluation of several modern insecticides was done at KVK farm and farmers fields in which thiamethoxam, imidaclorprid, indoxacarb, spinosad, emamectin benzoate, profenophos, hexythiazox, fipronil, rynaxypyr have been found effective against shoot and fruit borer in brinjal, shoot and fruit borer in okra, fruit borer in tomato, leaf curl complex in tomato, cabbage butterfly, leaf curl mite in brinjal and okra, leaf hopper in okra, fruit borer in litchi, mango hopper, shoot gall psylla in mango. Mixture of carbendazim and mancozeb have been found very promising against damping off disease in vegetable nursery. Thiophenate methyl has been outstanding against powdery mildew in cucurbits. These chemical pesticides are being used by the farmers for pest and disease management in horticultural crops.
Infrastructure development for demonstration of technologies at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dehradun, brought Rs. 69.92 lacs from Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna for demonstrations of protected vegetable cultivation, drip irrigation in litchi orchard, strengthening of irrigation facilities at KVK farm, dairy unit etc.
Established low cost poly tunnel technology for demonstration of nursery raising in vegetable crops at KVK, Dehradun under Horticulture Technology Mission (Mini Mission-I) in which 4-5 lacs vegetable seedlings are grown every year.

In backyard poultry farming, KVK introduced new breed of poultry birds CARI Devendra and CARI Dhanraja chicks for enhancing income of landless farmers and rural youth. There are 36 poultry units have been established in different parts of Dehradun by KVK intervention.
Five small scale units namely stitching, bakery, food processing, candle making, chalk making for entrepreneurship development of women farmers have been established to empower the women folk with the financial help of SEWA, THDC India Ltd.. A number of trainings in each area are being provided to develop their skills for domestic and commercial level.
More than 200 nutritional garden have been developed in different villages to provide nutritional security in malnourished children and women. In nutritional garden, farm women are being trained to grow seasonal vegetables round the year to meet out the requirement of vegetable in their family.
